Cliffs with a Sea Lion and Iguana (sz)
Santiago lies almost central within the Galapagos archipelago. Puerto Egas was once the site of two doomed salt mining enterprises in the 1920s and 1960s. We made a wet landing at the beach (into the water), and then ascended to the cliffs. The erosion from the sea makes interesting wave-cut shapes.

We strolled along a black volcanic beach, viewing many coastal birds on the one and one half mile loop trail.

In the deeply carved grottoes we also spied great numbers of marine iguanas plus playful sea lions.

Darwin's Toilet

Everyone's favourite lava tube, a cave that is periodically flushed by the action of the sea.
